Sherri has had an interest in art from a very young age. She began by drawing horses, and always took art classes when they were available in school. Art was her first choice as a career, but in college she realized that it would be difficult to be self-sustaining through art work alone. So she chose to major in Computer Science, with a minor in Studio Art. In college, Sherri had the opportunity to take oil painting and water-color classes with artist and professor, Mun Quan, whose traditional Chinese paintings have been exhibited worldwide. And as part of her Studio Art minor, she took various drawing, jewelry design, and glass blowing classes as well.
After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Jacksonville University, Sherri pursued her career in the Information Technology industry. She is a Jacksonville native, and met her husband at work when he transferred to Jacksonville from Indiana. They happily celebrated their 30th anniversary in May. During her 31 successful and busy years working in IT, she continued to create oil paintings in a very limited quantity for personal enjoyment and display.
Sherri started working in Pastels in 2012, and she "absolutely loves pastel painting. The colors and the vibrancy of the medium are what attracted me." And after retiring in 2013, she has focused exclusively on pastel painting. Sherri volunteers with the Beaches Sea Turtle Patrol, and much of her painting is inspired by the early morning walks and sunrises in Atlantic Beach, FL.
She also volunteers wtth Bible Study International as a Children’s Leader. She enjoysdesign and decorating, antique jewelry, reading, swimming, and traveling. Her favorite painter is Claude Monet, and her husband likes to say "there isn't a Monet left in Paris that we haven't seen."
Sherri is a member of The First Coast Pastel Society, The Cummer Gallery of Art and Gardens, The Charles Homer Morse Museum of American Art, and The Cultural Center at Ponte Vedra Beach.
